Forest restoration and conservation projects are notoriously hard to plan, fund, execute, and sustain over the decades-long timescales they require.
We're trying to find out, with evidence rather than assumption, where the biggest bottleneck actually sits:
Is the main constraint on forest restoration today knowledge, measurement, financing, or operational orchestration?
Satellite imagery, remote sensing, and ecological monitoring have improved enormously over the last decade — it's easier than ever to observe a forest. What's much less clear is whether the same progress has been made in coordinating action: deciding what needs to be done, where, by whom, with what resources, and tracking outcomes over the years or decades a restoration project actually takes.
We're collecting evidence — through interviews, research review, and direct observation of restoration projects — to answer that question honestly. The detailed analysis, hypotheses, and interview notes behind this page live in our private research workspace as they're gathered and validated.
